The Monterey County Herald — Federal agents arrested a man in Mexico who topped Santa Cruz
A Mexican newspaper reported Friday — and local investigators confirmed — that Oscar "Baby Joker" Cabrera, 36, was arrested Thursday in Jacona, Michoac n, and was turned over to FBI agents there.
He is being processed for deportation to the United States, where he is a citizen.
Police say Cabrera was a Nuestra Familia regiment leader who collected drug payments from cities as far north as Santa Rosa.
Cabrera fled to Mexico in 2006, shortly after he became a suspect in the murder of Jose Cabrera, not related, just outside Watsonville.
He is credited with being one of the first Nuestra Familia members to establish direct contacts for his gang to Mexican drug cartels, according to court documents.
Local investigators two years ago tracked Cabrera to Jacona, where he reportedly had relatives, but he apparently remained elusive.
He was working at a butcher shop on his family's property, Mexican police said, when he was arrested around noon on Thursday. continue reading...
