Jerry Brown tells unions to brace for California state worker pay cuts

SacbeeState workers' compensation is back on the budget chopping block.

Brown administration officials met with the state employee union leaders last week, according to sources familiar with the meetings, to warn them that the next version of the governor's budget will include an unspecified cut in employee costs up to 10 percent.

The administration in January estimated that California is confronting a $9.2 billion deficit through 2012-13, but a recent state analysis concluded the actual gap is considerably more.

The sources, who declined to talk on the record because the administration asked all involved to keep the discussions secret, said Brown told the unions he was seeking $750 million in state employee cost savings for fiscal 2012-13.

The sources said the Brown administration asked union leaders to come up with ways to make the reduction -- pay cuts or higher benefit contributions, for instance.

Department of Finance spokesman H.D. Palmer said, "The governor has already indicated that more difficult reductions will be required," because the state's budget deficit has grown since Brown issued his first budget proposal in January.

"The details of those reductions will be detailed in the May Revision," Palmer said. continue reading...

well now, just how is ccpoa going to get us fucked this time? Furlough time is fine with me as I can take tons of time off and still build saved time for my parole gate money. My guess well be ccpoa "negotiates" where we have to pay more into benefits packages. I hope this is the straw that finally breaks ccpoa supporting backs, and we can go to teamsters or a sewing circle union. Anything but ccpoa,,,,

CCPOA go f**k yourself.

This is what happens when union puts its arms diown, its members get bullied by the big boss. All defenses gone and whats left is more blows from the gov. Who knows whats next? Where is now the power of the union? Whats the point of having a puppet union? All they do is take members money..thats what i think.

Our union does a great job you guys might not see it but they got our back!

Great job my ass! We have been getting fucked since 2007. Fuck jb and ccpoa.

Who's jb Justin Bieber? Who doesn't have the jb fever? You guys don't know a good thing when you got one and no not jb I'm talking about our union! Just wait our union is going to shine for us.

our union quit shining for us the day Mikey was caught in a motel room on our union dime and the union state wide board did not throw him to the curb and tried to cover it up! We have been the recipients of DPA's blackmail towards Mikey and the others running the day to day in sacto, ever since. Get your head out of the sand and see the light as it is not ccpoa and it is not shiny!

He was caught with the parolee in the motel room. Guess I better make that clear for those that the ccpoa light is shining in their eyes still and blocking reality,,,,

Yeah they got our backs alright, back into the corner they put us in.

The dues paying members have no say so in anything except voting for the local board members, who betray us voting against the decision of the majority on the state level. The ccpoa local chapter presidents are the achille's heel to this union, far to long they have been drinking the spiked kool aid of grand denial. The other board members really don't have any say, so why do we have a board? Strictly for appearances from what I'm finding out here at DVI. The way things are set up MJ could be president for life. According to the members of the EC he is all we got, that means we really do need the Teamsters! Hell under these conditions and circumstances, I'd settle for the sewing circle union anything can be better than what we have. The question is do you really feel you've been represented? If not it is time for a change, because our union has been render uncapable of serving our needs.

The union has submitted to the state. They got in trouble with debt and lost all power in the process.

Now there is no proof, but many of us believe there was a back room deal between the state and CCPOA. They are "working together" the state is allowing them to pay back their debt with an interest free loan. And in return the state screws us with no interference. Not that CCPOA can afford to intervene anyway.

Now none of us are stupid, we all know more furloughs are coming. And that we can expect furloughs every year when the budget is due. Arny set that precedent and it'll be used every year with a convenient emergency budget crises.

But what I'm concerned about is our future contracts. I shutter to think about what the next one will look like.

Hard truth is.. When a leader is compromised or screwed up, members get the sh1t. Like they said sh1t goes down. CCPOA needs a new decent leader. One who has a backbone, who doesnt owe anybody in the state.

JB can bully CCPOA but he cant bully SEIU. CCPOA what a joke. SEIu union leader drew a line right away when JB mentioned more cuts. But what did MJ say? Where is he by the way? What are we paying him for?

More FHT. Or HCT.. Yeahhhhh. why state always looks for state workers to help balance their books. We are not the problem, we are not the fat, I make about 60k a year and I have to live pay check to pay check, cost of living is high, everything is more expensive, the gas pricess are off the hook, and my check is going to be smaller. All we want is just what you promised us when we all signed to be a C/O.
CCPOA here is an idea: 1 F and credit us the time for 12 M, and 3 PLP and no time credit for anyone above LT's Grade, 10% for all medical & mental health staff pay reduction, and no OT for any medical and mental health staff. Bring inmate health care to Fed leval about 6k CA is about 16k. Anyone else if you have suggestions post them.

End the Packages Program for food items and raise the rates on canteen items, $1.00 per Soup and so on and that should be a good start!, take the cuts to the inmates and Societies Social Leach's an then you will have my ear to listen about cutting my pay check!

As so eloquently put by ccpoa local chapter leadership who chose him against the wishes of the majority in Las Vegas, he is all we've got. Please give us all a break, I'm tired of hearing that weak a$$ line. Combine that with the sheer pleasure of being taken advantage of.

The State spent a lot more on prisoners medical bills than on COs salary. Chopping off employees salary is the easier route of balancing the budget rather than close examining where really all the money went. Too many red tapes on that. Thats why there is a union to protect us from this kind of crap. Dont get me wrong, I dont believe in changing the union, I believe in shaking it and put the right people in leadership. The corrupt should go. They sucked enough already, so either go or turn around, do something good before exiting.
