Millions Spent On State Cars, Furniture

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--In light of California's budget woes, lawmakers want to know why the state is continuing to spend millions on new cars and furniture.

Documents obtained by KCRA 3 reveal a continued pattern of ongoing spending by state agencies like the California Department of Transportation, the California Department of Motor Vehicles, and general services.

"What that said to me was, despite the fact that we have this horrible budget mess, that the administration was continuing to do business as usual," Assemblyman Hector De La Torre, D-South Gate, said.

The big ticket -- almost $44 million spent on cars and pickups. The state also spent just under $30 million on new office furniture and just over $2 million to rent conference rooms. It totals almost $75 million...
